About Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is the relationship between the distance traveled and the amount of fuel consumed by a vehicle. It is commonly expressed as miles per gallon (MPG) in the United States or kilometers per liter (km/L) in many other countries.

How to Calculate MPG:

  1. Fill up your gas tank completely.
  2. Reset your trip odometer or note the mileage on the odometer.
  3. Drive normally until the tank is close to empty.
  4. Refill the tank and note the number of gallons it takes to fill up.
  5. Note the number of miles driven on the trip odometer or calculate it from the odometer.
  6. Divide the miles driven by the gallons used: MPG = Miles ÷ Gallons
