Delivery and service area planning

A business that delivers or provides on-site service within a fixed distance can draw that boundary directly on the map, then eyeball which neighborhoods, towns or landmarks fall inside it. This is a visual planning aid, not a routing engine — it shows the straight-line boundary, not which roads actually reach every point inside it.

Real estate and commute distance

Center the map on a workplace, school or address and draw a radius to see what falls within a given straight-line distance, as a first pass before narrowing a home search to specific neighborhoods. Actual commute time depends on real roads and traffic, so treat the circle as a starting filter, not a promise of drive time.

Coverage, permit and evacuation zones

Many official notices define a zone as a fixed radius from a point — a construction permit's notification radius, a wellhead protection area or an evacuation zone. Enter the same center and radius stated in the notice to see exactly which area it covers.

What is a radius map calculator used for?

It draws a circle of a chosen radius around a point you pick, either by searching an address or clicking the map directly. Common uses include defining a delivery or service area, checking what falls within commuting distance of a home or office, estimating a real-estate search radius, or visualizing an evacuation, permit or coverage zone that a report defines by a fixed distance from a center point.

Is the radius a straight line or a driving distance?

Straight-line, sometimes called "as the crow flies." A 10-mile radius means every point exactly 10 miles from the center in any direction, not 10 miles of actual road travel. Real driving distance to the edge of the circle is almost always longer, since roads curve, follow terrain and cross intersections a straight line ignores. If you need drive-time coverage instead of straight-line distance, treat this radius as a rough outer bound and verify actual travel time with a mapping app for any specific route that matters.

How accurate is the address search?

The search uses OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoder, a free, community-maintained address database. It generally resolves well-known addresses, cities and zip codes accurately, but coverage and precision can vary for very new addresses, rural routes or ambiguous place names. If a search returns the wrong location or several similar-sounding results, pick from the list shown, or click directly on the map to place the center point exactly where you want it.

How is the covered area calculated?

Area = π × radius², the standard formula for the area of a circle, applied in whichever unit (miles or kilometers) is selected. This is the exact area enclosed by the circle drawn on the map, not an estimate of population, addresses or businesses within it — for that, a dedicated market-analysis or demographic tool would be needed.

Does this store or share the address I search for?

No. The address search is relayed to the geocoder to look up coordinates and the result is drawn on the map in your browser; nothing about your search is stored on our server or shared with any other party. The center point and radius shown in the URL after using "Copy share link" live entirely in that link, not in an account or a database.

Can I set the center point without typing an address?

Yes. Click anywhere on the map to move the center point directly, drag the marker to fine-tune it, or tap the location button to center on your current position using your browser's own location permission. All three methods update the radius and coverage figures immediately.

Does this work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The map, search box and radius controls resize for a narrower screen, and the same tap-to-move-center and drag-the-marker interactions work with a touchscreen. "Use my location" is generally more accurate on a phone, since it can use device GPS rather than a coarser network-based estimate.

What this map does and does not show

The circle drawn is an exact straight-line radius and its area is computed with the standard π × r² formula. It does not account for roads, terrain, drive time, jurisdiction boundaries or population inside the circle. Address search results come from OpenStreetMap's community-maintained Nominatim geocoder and can occasionally be imprecise for new, rural or ambiguous addresses — verify a location by clicking the map directly if a search result looks wrong.
