MRR & ARR and MRR Growth track recurring revenue, and SaaS Churn, Gross and Net Revenue Retention show how much of it you keep. LTV:CAC and CAC Payback judge whether acquisition spending pays off, and the SaaS Magic Number and Rule of 40 measure efficiency. On the funding side, Pre-Money & Post-Money Valuation, Startup Dilution, Option Pool Dilution, SAFE Conversion and Convertible Note show what each round does to ownership. Model dilution early.
Among the tools here are MRR & ARR Calculator, Net Revenue Retention Calculator, LTV:CAC Calculator, CAC Payback Calculator, SaaS Churn Calculator, Pre-Money & Post-Money Valuation Calculator, Startup Dilution Calculator, SAFE Conversion Calculator, and 6 more that follow the same pattern of formula, worked example, limits and sources.

Where people go wrong with startup & saas numbers
Founders often celebrate growth without looking at churn, but a leaky bucket needs ever more acquisition spending. LTV:CAC depends on assumed lifetimes that early data cannot support, so treat it as a rough guide. Dilution compounds through rounds and option pools, and a SAFE or note converts at terms that change the result. These are models, and real term sheets and legal documents govern. Retention first. Growth on a leaky bucket fails.

Common startup & saas questions
What is a good net revenue retention rate?
Above one hundred percent means the existing customer base grows without any new sales, which is a strong position. What counts as good varies substantially by segment, since businesses selling to larger organisations typically achieve more expansion than those selling to very small ones.
How do I calculate customer acquisition cost?
Total everything spent to acquire customers in a period, sales and marketing salaries, commissions, tooling and attributable overhead, not just advertising, divided by customers acquired. Excluding people costs is the most common way CAC is understated.
What LTV to CAC ratio should I target?
Commonly cited thresholds depend on churn assumptions far into the future that young companies cannot support. CAC payback period is a better operating target because it is grounded in observed cash flows and depends on fewer assumptions.
How much equity should I give investors?
It follows from how much you raise and at what valuation , not being chosen directly. The more useful question is whether the capital produces more value than the ownership it costs, since a smaller share of a much larger outcome is worth more.
What is the difference between MRR and revenue?
MRR counts normalised recurring subscription revenue and excludes one-time fees, professional services and usage overages. Total revenue includes everything. Blending them overstates the predictable base and distorts the growth rate.
How does an option pool affect founder ownership?
Investors typically require a pool established before the investment, which means it dilutes existing holders instead of the incoming investor and effectively lowers the pre-money valuation. It is a substantive negotiation, not an administrative detail.
What is a valuation cap on a convertible note?
A maximum valuation at which the instrument converts. If the priced round is above the cap, it converts as though the valuation were the cap, giving the investor more shares for the same money. The further above the cap, the larger the effect.
Should I optimise for growth or profitability?
It depends on capital availability, unit economics and how defensible the market position is. Growth funded by capital that may not be available later is fragile. Profitability that forgoes a durable position can be equally costly. The honest version of the question is which risk you can survive.

Startup & SaaS calculator questions
What is a good LTV to CAC ratio?
Around 3 to 1 is a common benchmark, meaning a customer returns three times what it cost to acquire, though it varies by stage.
What does net revenue retention measure?
It is the revenue from an existing customer group a year later including upgrades and churn, and above 100% means the base grows by itself.
How does an option pool dilute founders?
The pool is usually created before the round, so it reduces founder and existing holder percentages, not the new investors' stake.
